not_failed

Only a failed message can be sent again

POST /v1/messages/{id}/retry is for a message that did not go out. A queued one is still going and a sent one has gone, so sending either again would deliver the same message twice.

What to do

Read status first. If it is queued, wait: the queue is paced deliberately. If it is sent, delivered or read, the recipient has it. Only failed can be retried.
